Science & Technology Department facilitates research scholars

Kohima, February 25 (DIPR): The Department of Science & Technology Nagaland, has been extending support and facilitating research scholars in their various project works concerning on subject of interests for the people of the State.

A seminar was organized on February 24 at the Conference Hall of Science & Technology where senior research fellow of the State, Thechano Merry highlighted on her research work focusing on the importance of medicinal plants. Thechano Merry is working on the plant Pogostemon Amaranthoids that is believed to have medicinal values for diabetes. Talking about her research work, Thechano said that the main objective of her research was to understand the use of herbal medicines and also to study and understand the chemical component while also identifying the particular compound. She further said that her research work also focus to study the anti-microbial activity.

Senior scientific officer, Dr. Zavie highlighted on the need for scientific study by identifying the plant and experimenting it scientifically. Pointing out North East as a bio-diversity, Dr. Zavie stressed on the need for converting the hot spot of that wealth to benefit the farmers. Although there are many medicinal plants in Nagaland, yet nobody has done research scientifically to validate the claims, he observed. Many research scholars attended the seminar widening their knowledge through the interactive session.
