Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, today called upon the people of various communities to do away with the culture of self-centeredness and self-interests and rather to serve society with dedication.
Addressing an event for distribution of calipers and wheelchairs to the differently-abled organized by SD Jain Charitable Clinic here at SD Jain College, the Governor lauded the Jain community for taking up myriad social services including helping the differently-abled people and said service to the people is service to God.
Acharya said earlier the differently-abled persons were called “apangs” (disabled) but the Narendra Modi government gave them a respectable name “divyang” (divine body).
Stating that the Jain community can involve themselves in more social and charitable services, he also said the Digambar Jain community has shown the path of service to the people, adding construction of school and imparting education to children was a very big step towards service to people.
He urged them to serve the society to make the country strong. He also told them to raise voice for the needy people instead of becoming self-centred.
The Governor asked the Jain community not to remain confined in Dimapur alone, but also venture out in other parts of Nagaland and provide service to the people.
President, SD Jain Samaj, Om Prakash Sethi and Abe Mero, a social worker also spoke in the distribution ceremony programme.
Earlier, secretary, SD Jain College, Kishor Kashliwal, delivered the welcome address.
