SDSA kicks off 'Combat against Drug' Campaign in Maram

Kohima, October 26 (MExN): In light of the prevailing situation, with the sudden spike in the number of drug abusers, especially among students and even underage children, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) kicked off an intensive awareness campaign, a 'Combat Against Drugs' campaign, with the theme “Say No To Drugs: Building a Drug-Free District” on the October 25 at the auditorium of Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram.

Rev Fr Dr KO Sebastian, Principal, Don Bosco College Maram delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of tackling drug abuse in the community.

Shivanand Surve, Superintendent of Police, Senapati talked on the topic “Understanding Narcotic Drugs & Illicit Trafficking and its Impact on Students and Youths and the Legal Implications.”

Dr. Ngouniba Peter, District Nodal Officer for the District Mental Health Program spoke on “Substance Use and its Adverse Effects” while Paveine Paulina, Clinical Psychologist from DMHP Senapati talked on “Psychological Interventions on Substance Use.”

In his closing remarks, Robin Kangba, Vice President of SDSA, reiterated the severe damage caused by drug abuse in society and urged students not to indulge in such activities.

He called upon them to unite in the fight against drug usage for the betterment of their community.

Vote of thanks was proposed by K. Joshua, Information and Publicity Secretary of SDSA.

The event marked a significant step forward in the battle against drug abuse, promoting awareness and unity in the fight for a drug-free society in Senapati district.

As part of this campaign, SDSA plans to conduct a series of seminars in different colleges around the district, apart from various other public awareness activities such as public rally, a mini-marathon, poster campaigns etc.

Further, a seminar was conducted in collaboration with Senapati Police and the support of the District Administration, with CMTV as the campaign's media partner and was targeted at the students of the college and was also attended by all SDSA executives as well as different communities student leaders.

The event was led by Miss Rhoda, the Women coordinator of SDSA, as the moderator, and chaired by Robin Kangba, the Vice-president of the apex student body, who is also the convenor for the campaign.

The program commenced with welcome address by Yunuo Peter, President SDSA.
