Kohima, June 30 (MExN): A seminar on career guidance, counseling and motivation was organized for the students of Baptist College, Sechü Campus on June 30 themed ‘Towards the zenith of Success’ organized by the Career Guidance and Counseling Committee at Conference Hall, Shalom Bible Seminary, Sechü Zubza with Rüülhouü Mere, Assistant Professor as the program facilitator.
The resource persons were Dr. Zavise Rume, Associate Professor, SCERT, Kohima and Rukewelo T. Mero, Superintendent of Police, Peren.
Speaking on ‘How to choose the right profession,’ Dr. Rume gave a briefing on the availability of different degree courses based on a person’s interest, ability and aptitude and different job avenues offered. He talked on how career in the real sense is a process of progression and that a person’s profession should click with one’s interest. Pointing out the need to tap and explore the many resources within a person to help channelize these resources towards developing a career he said, “Man is born with multiple talents” but “you yourself is the best source of information for yourself”. Besides academic proficiency he further emphasized on the availability and need for skill based careers.
In the second session, Mero talked on ‘Motivation and Aptitude’. He challenged the students to take up the ability to think as a weapon to progress in life declaring that “what is inside you is what you become”. He questioned as to why many first class students were unable to crack through competitive exams like NPSC when an average student like himself could get through. He pointed out at the lack of purpose, goal, failure of practical application of knowledge while studying and the sole aim to get paper qualification as some major mistakes that can hinder us from achieving success. He further emphasized on the need to take up responsibility for one’s own learning process and development and to develop positive attitude which will shape us and to do away with blame games when faced with failures.
As students, he cautioned them against the many dangerous factors that can hold them back like the abusive use of technologies. He last spoke on the need for a ‘belief-system’ in God which alone can give confidence when faced with the knowledge that it is impossible to know everything and quoted, “we can do little things correctly everyday and great things will happen.”
The moderators for the programs were Megosieno Mor, Assistant Professor and Machileule Hau, Assistant Professor. Altogether 54 participants including the students, the teaching staff and Dr. Kewepfüzu Lohe, Vice-Principal, Sechü campus attended the Seminar.
