Kohima, November 17 (MExN): The second phase of a seminar on "Quality Education in Chakhesang Areas," organized by the Chakhesang Scholars' Forum (CSF) in collaboration with the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO), was held at the Red Cross Building in Kohima on Saturday.

The first phase of the seminar took place in Phek last month.

Dr. Zavise Rume, Chairman of CSF, addressed the gathering, identifying key challenges to quality education in Chakhesang areas. He highlighted a lack of moral will, unprofessional teaching standards, and insufficient effort by students as major obstacles. Dr. Rume emphasized the need for improvements in both teaching and learning practices, stating, "Unless teachers and students are improved, we cannot sustain quality education in our locality."

He further suggested measures such as banning the illegal practice of proxy teachers, ensuring that teachers focus solely on their educational responsibilities, promoting indigenous knowledge, integrating sports into education, and implementing the state's Communitisation of education policy in its true spirit.

CPO President Vezuhu Keyho reiterated the organization's commitment to quality education, which was resolved during its 2022 general session. Keyho shared that the CPO entrusted the CSF with conducting seminars to gather insights from researchers and educators, expressing hope that these initiatives would lead to strategies for improving elementary education in Chakhesang areas.

Resource persons, including Hüsazu Epao, former principal of Patkai Christian College, and Kühüpoyo Puroh, retired Chairman of the Nagaland Public Service Commission, delved into various aspects of quality education. Epao emphasized the importance of comprehensive planning, infrastructure, funding policies, and accountability in managing quality education, while Puroh called for collaborative efforts to improve teaching, professional development for teachers, and inclusive, student-centered approaches.

The technical sessions were moderated by Dr. Velhou Koza, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Don Bosco College Kohima, and Dr. Tsutshowe-ü Sekhamo, CSF Secretary for Academic and Journal Publications.

Earlier in the day, Dingupe Lasuh, PhD Research Scholar at Nagaland University, chaired the introductory session. Dr. Gideon Phesao, General Secretary of CSF, presented statistics on school education in Chakhesang areas, while cultural performances by Thukuvelu Sakhamo and friends added a traditional touch.

Over 40 researchers, educators, and community members participated in the seminar, sharing their views and discussing strategies during interactive sessions.
