Senior officers discuss food grain requirement

Kohima, May 30 (MExN): A meeting of senior officers was convened at the directorate conference Hall on May 25 to discuss urgently the population census 2011 food grain requirement upto 2020, where A.Y Ovung, Directorate of Agriculture presided the meeting which was also attended by minister Agriculture, Dr. Chumben Murry, APC and principal secretary (agriculture), H.K. Khulu IAS.
Expressing concern over the population growth, rate and requirement of food grains in the state where Ovung insist upon the officers to exercise 5% growth rate per annum for the time being taking 2011 census (19,80,602) as base year and also to ascertain actual area for assessing food grain production and requirements.
Khulu IAS made a fervent appeal to all the officers for collection of accurate data to be made a priority and to forge a linkup with irrigation department for net irrigated area by the in charge, RKVY and to work in cohesion with them. Khulu also urged the field officers to calculate actual sown area for getting accurate area under crop and food grain production adding that co-ordination between the department and NSAMB needs to be strengthened and a system of accounting by way of statutory auditing to be streamlined. He asked the members to remove the mental blocks as well are working for a common target.
Dwelling on the importance of NSAMB & the APMCs to be strengthened and to improve linkages and value chain, he said “A concept note on linking up marketing at the district, sub-divisional and village levels to be prepared by the marketing section”, also suggested to incentivize the Agri and allied officers.
As the officers poured their concern for cattle trespass act which is not implemented effectively, it was also decided that APC would write a letter to all the DC’s and DAO’s for implementation of the Act and also a note on contract farming to be prepared by the marketing section for distribution to the APMC members.
