Sensitization on importance of legal adoption held in Mon

Mon, July 25 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mon organised one day sensitization programme on the importance of legal adoption under Juvenile Justice Act 2015 on July 24 at DRDA conference hall, Mon.

Kumar Ramnikant (IAS), ADC Mon was the special guest in the programme. He urged the gathering to disseminate information widely to the public and also generate awareness on legal provisions associated with adoption, according to a press release from DCPO Mon, Samuel Kapu.  

The ADC pointed out that most couples want to have children of their own, but due to infertility or other factors, some are unable to conceive. Hence, they resort to adoption of their relatives or other’s children. However, like other districts in the country, Mon district has also established orphans/abandoned homes from where desirous couples can adopt children, he added.  

Mariam Arolim, Coordinator of John 3:16 Society, who was the resource person, stated an adopted child is permanently separated from his/her biological parents and becomes the lawful child of adoptive parents with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that are attached to a biological child.  

She also highlighted the importance of legal adoption and the resources available in the district such as District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, and Specialized Adoption Agency.  

Tongwang Yanlem, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Mon outlined the basic structure of Social Welfare department and expressed his happiness about the programme.  

Samuel Kapu, the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) presented the keynote address in the programme, which was attended by nurses, ASHA workers, Angawadi workers, Society leaders and NGOs.  

Earlier, Menuo, pastor, Tenyimi Church Mon invoked God’s blessing, while welcome address was delivered by Wangka, PO (IC) and vote of thanks was proposed by Nginging Konyak, PO (NIC).
