KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 25 (MExN): A one day sensitization program on Standards, Technical Regulation, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation was held at the Directorate of Industries & Commerce Kohima on September 25.
The program was organized by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NBCB) and Quality Council of India (QCI), informed a report from the DIPR.
CEO of NABCB Anil Jauhri while delivering the key note address said that it is estimated worldwide that 60 to 70% of various trades are due to standards as standards have become the most important thing and it is very important now that everyone need to know about standards.
He said that it is very important for all section of society be it government, industry or service industry needs to be aware of how standards will impact in terms of their survival. Not everybody can be an expert but can have a broad view and how it impacts us.
He added that standards keep changing and it is a battle for all to understand the importance of standards. Jauhri further expressed happiness that the government has realized the importance of standardization as it has become an issue which is causing a problem. He stated that the purpose of the training is to create awareness on the basics which will help all the participants to have a broad understanding of the issues which is actually happening in the domestic and international market.
Commissioner and Secretary I&C Lithrongla G. Chishi IAS in her introductory speech said that “we all busy in our own fields and when it comes to standardization and certification issues it is a very new topic for us especially in Nagaland.” She added that “if we have to compete internationally in the market or in any forum we need to have this.”
Chishi encouraged participating departments like the Agri & Allied, Handloom, Bio Resource and Bamboo to make the best use of the training as they will be the forth runner in creating awareness and impart training to other departments in future.
The resource persons for the program were CEO NABCB Anil Jauhri, Professor Murali Kallummal Department of Commerce and S Krishnamurthy Lead Assessor NABCB.
Various topics to be discussed include the WTO agreement on standard and conformity and their assessment; accreditation: the global and national infrastructure and its benefits; understanding conformity assessment; national measurement system in India and its international linkages; challenges of standards and conformity assessment; and emerging regulatory regime.
The program was chaired by Additional Director I&C Hokishe Assumi and vote of thanks was pronounced by Director I&C, Er. S. Temsulong Jamir.
