Set aside Sunday as 'worship day' during Hornbill Festival, appeals ABAM

Dimapur, November 29 (MExN): Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) today appealed to the Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi to set aside Sunday as “worship day” during the 2019 Nagaland Hornbill Festival.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, ABAM President Reverend Temsu S and Executive Secretary Reverend Dr Mar Atsongchnger, said that over the last few years, local churches and church associations have been voicing out through various means to observe Sunday as “Worship day” in Nagaland and therefore, no business and outside programmes should happen. Citing the notification published in the media on March 28, ABAM said that “Sunday is the day of ‘Worship' for Christians in Nagaland, and therefore any programme pertaining to disturb and muddle the spirit of true worship should not entertain in Nagaland on Sunday.”

While maintaining that this year’s inauguration falls on Sunday, December 1, ABAM held will be “a direct hindrance from observing a solemn worship for Christians in Nagaland.” While Hornbill Festival was a time to transpire our rich culture, ABAM added that over the years, the “festival seemed to have turned into profligacy.” In view of the concerns, the Association appealed to the Governor that the inauguration of 2019 Hornbill festival “should differ and any Sunday that falls during such great event should be exempted from daily activities.”
