Shamator, January 8 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) on Saturday announced its decision to suspend its first phase of public agitation demanding the creation of Shamator district.
While it did not provide any reasons, YTC Executive Chairperson Y Makezho said in a press release, that the agitation has been temporarily suspended. “The operation of Likimro Hydroelectric Power Plant (LHPP) may be resumed, and the entry of visitors or researchers at Mt Saramati, Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, stone caves at Salomi and Mimi will be lifted for now,” the release stated.
Notifying all the administrative headquarters under YTC to comply with the suspension, the release cautioned that it would resume democratic agitations “in the event of the state government’s failure to fulfil the assurance at the earliest.”
The development comes after the state government on Friday decided to the set up a third party to negotiate with the civil society organisations of the area. However, as on Saturday, no further details regarding the Cabinet decision were made public.
