‘Shaping future together through culture and identity’

Wokha, September 24 (MExN): The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) organized the 2nd Cultural cum Literacy Festival in collaboration with District Administration-MSK (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) and Wokha District Legal Services Authority on September 23 at Town Hall, Wokha.
The event was organized with the theme ‘Shaping the future together through culture and identity’ with Jt. Director Agriculture, N. Jacob Yanthan as the guest of honour and Director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe as the special guest.
Wonthungo reminded the students about our rich tradition and customs, which he said is highly commendable and expressed hope it will take a long way in preserving our culture and identity. He also stressed on the importance and usage of our traditional cloths and ornaments used by our forefathers basing on social status.
Encouraging the students of becoming a successful person in whatever field they take up he urged them to be obedient and hardworking because there is no shortcut to success and called upon them to spend and give more time to their studies rather than wasting time on leisure so that they become responsible contributors to the society.
Jt Director, Agriculture, N Jacob Yanthan encouraged the students to learn the values of our traditions and called upon them to carry forward in safeguarding our culture, pride and practices alive.
Secretary (Judicial) Department of Justice and Law, Kohima, Nino Iralu, called upon the students to be serious and hardworking to become responsible members of the society. Iralu also highlighted about the activities of the Legal Services Authority and the services provided for the benefit of the common people.
SDO (C), Wokha Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS said that the role of culture is not limited to organizing and celebrating festivals, but the beauty and magic of the land of plenty and the land of the culture is the communication skills the Nagas have inherited through their culture and religion. He urged the younger generation to treasure it and carry forward the great legacy their forefathers have left behind.
Highlights of the event included spelling bee and recitation, folk fusion song and cultural show, basket making, weaving and knitting, painting and debate, extempore speech competition and essay writing.
