Shetoyi Sumi assures promotion of aquaculture

Kohima, April 6 (MExN): A felicitation programme in honor of Shetoyi Sumi, Parliamentary Secretary, Fisheries, Soil & Water Conservation was held on April 4, at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Fisheries, Kohima.

Congratulating the officers and staffs of the Department for their outstanding job in successfully implementing various developmental activities for the benefit of the people expressed pride in being part of the Department adding that his main focus would be on human resource development and self sustainable oriented projects with special emphasis on grass root levels, women and youth.

Encouraging the staff to come up with innovative and feasible ideas, which will benefit the state in the long run he assured them of giving his best in putting wings to the projects through various funding. With about 3900 metric ton fish being imported annually by the State he called on the department to stand united in order to bring the Department on the map of development, pointing out the state’s richness in different species of fishes and favorable breeding ground. He also stressed on the Department to create a platform for unemployed youths through awareness programmes, capacity building, financial and technical assistance in promoting aquaculture which will directly provide adequate opportunities towards sustainable livelihood, revenue and employment in the State. 

BP Chetri, Commissioner & Secretary, and Fisheries & Co-operation Chaired the programme, with R. Wati Imchen, Registrar invoking God’s blessing. C. Kapfo, Director of Fisheries gave the welcome address while C. Imti Longkumer, Deputy Director of Fisheries highlighted the activities/programmes of the department. Zenohol Angami, Addl. Director of Fisheries, delivered the vote of thanks.
