Dimapur | April 10
Homoeopathy is a term so casually used. But ever wondered about its origin and who was responsible for founding this alternative system of medicine?
Today, April 10 is the 262nd birth anniversary of Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, who is regarded as the ‘father of homoeopathy’. An allopathic practitioner at first, Dr. Hahnemann’s work is considered as a watershed in the practice of homoeopathy.
Commemorating the celebrated German physician’s birthday, the Symposium for Holistic Health (SHH) organised an awareness talk on Homoeopathy at the ICFAI University, Dimapur on April 10.
Chief guest, Dr. Bendangtula Jamir, Assistant Director, Health and Family Welfare and Registrar, Board of Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Nagaland gave an awareness talk on AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) and the activities of the state health department on homoeopathy.
Dwelling on the “holistic approach” of homoeopathy to the treatment of ailments, Dr. Jamir said that this system of medicine can play significant role in the changing scenario of health and approaches towards it. Stating that today majority of the ailments are lifestyle related, she said, homoeopathy with its all-round approach can be effective, while adding, “Homoeopathy doesn’t treat the patient, it treats the person.”
Dr. Lanuyanger Jamir, Medical Officer (Homeopathy), District Hospital, Dimapur, spoke on how homoeopathy seeks to address the mind, body and soul. Speaking on the inter-relation between the mental and physical well-being, he said that infirmity begins in the mind and spreads to the body demonstrating Dr. Hahnemann’s assertion 200 years ago.
