Several orgs submit representation to DC Mokokchung

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Mokokchung (ENPUM) on Wednesday organized a silent procession in protest against the alleged murder of Esther Phom on September 14 last in Mokokchung. 

The protesters marched towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mokokchung and submitted a representation in relation to the murder of Esther Phom by one Aowati, a Gaon Bura residing at Yimyu ward in Mokokchung district. 

ENPUM president, Y Among Yim and secretary, Kushem Chang have earlier informed all its officials, Alichen unit, six tribal unions, federating units, women organization, eastern Nagaland churches and all the eastern people under the Union to join the procession.

While appreciating the prompt arrest of the culprit, several civil society organisations under the ENPUM submitted a four point representation to highlight “few pertinent matters in the interest of the victim’s family and the public of Mokokchung.”

The organisations stated that the murder of Esther Phom, wife of Imtioza by one Aowati (Gaon Bura), “provokes deep concern over the safety and security of women folks in our society; Inorder to prevent such unfortunate incident from repeating in the future, justice must not only be done, but justice must be seen to be done.” 

“Therefore, should there be any act of individual or organization that tantamount to the dilution of justice served or pre-mature release of the convict, your authority is kindly requested to immediately apprehend such act individual or organizations that tantamount to the dilution of justice served or pre-mature release of the convict, your authority is kindly requested to immediately apprehend such act,” it stated.

Further, the organizations appealed to the DC ‘to render all possible help as and when approached by the victim's family members in relation to the matter in question.’ 

The representation was appended by ENPUM, Eastern Naga Women Organization of Mokokchung (ENWOM), ENPUM Chang Union Mokokchung, Phom Union Mokokchung, Sangtam Union Mokokchung, Konyak Union Mokokchung, Khiamniungan Union Mokokchung, Yimkhiung Union Mokokchung and ENPUM Alichen Unit.
