Sir Rod Stewart has been knighted at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his services to music and charity. The ceremony was conducted by the Duke of Cambridge after Sir Rod was honoured in the Queen's birthday honours list. Sir Rod was accompanied by his wife Penny Lancaster and his two youngest children, Alastair and Aiden. The star previously described the award as "a monumental honour... I couldn't ask for anything more. I thank Her Majesty and promise to 'wear it well'." Speaking to the Radio Times in 2013, the singer - now officially Sir Roderick - said he was confused why he had not yet received a knighthood, while contemporaries such as Sir Tom Jones and Sir Mick Jagger had. Others being honoured included actor David Oyelowo, who was made an OBE. He is currently starring in The Queen of Katwe opposite Lupita N'yongo. Oyelowo, whose credits also include the Oscar-winning civil rights film Selma, was given a Prince's Trust grant as he was embarking on his acting career. He said: "To be honoured by the Queen in this way having been aided by her son's charity feels like a beautiful full-circle moment."
