
Dimapur, December 24 (MExN): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was constituted on November 26 by the State government to look into the November 24 ambush on Goa Governor SC Jamir has sought more time to complete its investigation, highly placed sources informed. The SIT headed by CP Giri, Additional DGP (Operations) was to submit its inquiry report within fifteen days time from the date of issue of the notification dated November 26. However, a two-week more time was sought after the 15-day dateline expired. Later again, the SIT sought about four-weeks after the fortnight expired since the investigation required more inputs like cross-examination of witnesses, inputs from the people of area in concern and the governor himself, highly reliable sources informed.
It was informed that the SIT had already cross-examined Dr. SC Jamir. One of the difficulties facing the SIT in the probe was the refusal or reluctance of witnesses to come forward to testify or give statements, it was disclosed. It may be mentioned that the SIT will probe the circumstances leading to the ambush and to ascertain the identity of the perpetrators. According to government sources, the SIT will submit its report only after the New Year.
