Chümoukedima, March 23 (MExN): The Department of Social Work, St Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima held its first social work fest under the theme ‘respecting diversity through joint social actions’ on March 21 and 22.

Dr Viu Meru, Deputy Director (Admin), CIHSR, Chümoukedima graced the event as the special guest on the inaugural Day. He highlighted the social pluralism of the present day society and the need to accept, appreciate and respect these diversities as normal. He pointed out that various Acts and Laws can only address the discriminating behaviour but not the attitude in itself. He expressed his delight towards the Department of Social Work, SJU for taking joint actions to demonstrate their respect for diversity.

On the second day, Rev Fr GL Khing, Vice Principal and Admin (NEISSR) was the resource person. He highlighted the importance of knowledge and skills to properly address social problems with actions. He emphasized that respecting diversity doesn’t mean pleasing all people. He also deliberated on some areas where professional social workers can address the social problems without wasting much resources.

The event deliberated on the diversity and social problems through various modules and items from the participating Institutes. The event also witnessed performance of guest artists as a part of mini concert.
