An award being presented to one of the faculty and staff members at St Joseph University.
DIMAPUR, July 30 (MExN): St Joseph University held its annual staff award ceremony at the university auditorium to recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of its staff members. The SJU award ceremony recognized the dedication, perseverance and commitment of the teaching and the non-teaching staff members in their position.
Altogether 250 awards were conferred to staff members as recognition and appreciation.
Dr Imkumnaro Walling from the Department of Education received the Mother Virginammal award of excellence in Research. J Justin from Department of Computer Science received the St Joseph award of the best attendance for faculty. Dr J Suresh Kumar from the Department of Economics received the Chancellor Award for the best faculty of the year.
Dr Thokchom Sunanda Devi from the Department of English received the Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Award for the outstanding achiever of the year and Chalie from the office of the Vice Chancellor received the best non-teaching staff of the year.
The Department of Economics received the Hornbill Award for the best department of the year.
In his welcome speech, Dr K Sethupathy, Registrar, said teachers are the heartbeat of the university and this award ceremony aimed to recognize and acknowledge all staff members, teaching and non-teaching, for their contribution to the institution.
Vice chancellor Dr D Gnanadurai complimented the staff members for their commitment and the effective execution of NEP 2020. He stressed the significance of the teachers’ role for prevention of drop out. He urged the teachers to make sure the students understand the objective and scope of the subject. He also emphasizes the need to discovering the hidden talent of the students. Upon emphasizing on responsibilities of teacher, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that with the information of the whole world at hand, as a teacher in the present age, one should be more of a guide to the students.
The thematic address was delivered by Sr Thiannes, the Deputy Registrar. She charted the objectives of the awards as a pathway to excellence. The performance appraisal conducted at the end of every semester is the indicator of performance; She exhorted all to consider it as a motivating factor for progress.
The programme included songs and sharing by the faculty, and exhortation by Prof Charles, Dean Student Affairs. Prayer and benediction was pronounced by Father Nathan and Father Anish. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Debojit Konwar. The program was attended by 200 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
