Dimapur, January 8 (MExN): Over a statement implied to have been made by the NSCN-IM that the Sumi community betrayed the Naga political movement, the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has asked the organization to withdraw the statement.
“There has not been any record of the Sumi tribe betraying the Naga political movement. Therefore, NSCN-IM leadership must unconditionally withdraw the statement without delay” a note from the SKK executives stated.
The SKK maintained that the organization labeled the said community as betrayers of the Naga political movement. “Till date no organization has particularized tribe as betrayers; it is misfortune that an organization whom we fed, we have protected and for whom we have sacrificed countless lives has brought out this unprecedented statement” the SKK lamented. The SKK reminded the NSCN-IM that “you cannot curse your benefactor and for whom you survive. It is not our request to the leadership of any organization to give tribal color to the Naga political movement; the moment you indulge in petty tribal politics you lose legitimacy to lead the Nagas.”
The SKK further advised that if the outfit feels that a divided house with continued bloodshed must not cease “then you can sell your idea somewhere.” “The Nagas in general have had enough of the situation and we must take positive steps. We must first achieve freedom among ourselves. We call upon our Naga brothers to judge who stands for the right course” it added.
