Solution first, not ‘imposed’ delimitation exercise: AKM, KSU

Mon, September 8 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) and the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have made a collective decision to ‘totally denounce’ the delimitation process in the State of Nagaland till an honourable solution to Naga Political issues is arrived at.

The decision was taken during a meeting between the two organisations at Mon Town on September 5, according to a joint press release from KSU President Bumang Konyak and AKM President Nungdokyanger Ao on Tuesday.

The two organisations held threadbare deliberations on various pertinent issues including the ongoing Indo-Naga Peace Talks and the delimitation process and came to an understanding that the two unions would work together for peaceful coexistence of all Nagas, it said.

“The KSU and AKM closely examined the ongoing Naga political settlement between the Government of India and the Naga national groups and extend full support for amicable solution to the seven decades old political movement towards our desire for honourable, acceptable and peaceful coexistence,” the release added.

On the resolution to denounce the delimitation process in Nagaland, the KSU and AKM asserted that if the delimitation exercise is ‘imposed,’ “it will further destabilise the solemn nature of tribal affiliation and also create division within the society.”

As such, it cautioned the government that “in the event of any circumstantial failure as a result of ‘imposed’ delimitation process,” the KSU and AKM shall not be held responsible.

Further, the KSU and AKM urged the State government to initiate sincere, serious and honest execution of the Census program in the State, “instead of implementing the unwarranted delimitation process.”
