SOMETHING AMISS?

My sincere appreciation goes out to all the successful HSLC candidates in the recently declared NBSE result. I also applaud the toppers along with their respective schools for achieving such a remarkable feat. This year result showcased lots of overall thriving positive development of our youngsters in education. Indeed it's a proud moment.

One could not miss the spurt of cautious excitement with the mantra 'who is at the top'? Unfolds the minute the clock starts ticking unveiling the who, who of the HSLC elite topper club. Needless to say that this coveted toppers list triggers even a cultivator's curiosity to go chase the most elusive answer to his self indulgent question, Is there any folk from our place ? With renewed hope each passing year without much success. The only rewarding enlightenment this writer seems to uncovered was a healthy intellectual battle for supremacy among the student community.

That being said, in recent years, the much awaited HSLC top merit list seems to have become (no hard feelings) more of a tug of war between schools from Dimapur and Kohima, as schools from other districts and small town rarely finds a place in the toppers list. Sadly amidst all the excitement this poor old writer finds himself completely stumped and intrigued seeing students from other districts and small town missing the Bulls eye despite giving their best loaded shots each year.

With nothing against anyone, the writer wonders why students from other districts and small town besides Dimapur and Kohima, fails to crack into the elite list often comparatively. No doubt students from Kohima and Dimapur schools are bright and smart kids but then students from other schools aren't suppandis either. Breaking into the top list or to be at the top is not the end all yet the inability of these students seems to reflect the kind of education standard they are provided.

Surely there must be something AMISS which prevents them to make it to the top. A closer look into the system of education impart in these schools needs to be assess seriously if we want our kids to excel like their peers.

Moreover, over the years, with due respect, our dear brothers and sisters from other states mostly dominate the toppers list. A classic example is the result of 2017 and 2023 where they occupied all the top five spots. It’s only this year our young boys and girls swept all the five top spots for which I grandly salute them. This might even be a first in itself. Nevertheless from a cultivator's lens I dare our young minds to be mindful of being the best always. So while acknowledging their outstanding effort into making the cut by quite a lot of our own indigenous students this year compared to previous years, and not forgetting the excellent performance by our fellow inhabitants from other states, our youngsters, the future intellectual pillars of our state should ask themselves whether it looks cool if Nagaland HSLC toppers list turns out to be full of names from other states.

Adding no offence to anyone, it's mighty high time our youngsters should learn to come out from their comfort zone, work real hard, be confident minus the bossy flavour and try to consistently excel to be at the top among the best. They say Rome was not built in a day but this eccentric writer see no city being built even in decades unless our young intellectual minds push boundaries to catch up with the rest of the intelligentsia of mother India. God bless.
