Songs for the Road: Patkai sways to improve its pathway

Morung Express News   When Patkains come together for a cause, one thing is sure – it would be backed by impeccable planning, flawless execution and a massive stand for the cause.   The Charity Concert in aid of Patkai Road Construction at the Bundrock Chapel, Patkai Christain College on Friday was no less. The closing act of the night, the redoubtable ANTB had the crowd on their feet with many singing and swaying along to their songs.   Alobo Naga, who recently completed 100 performances for 2016, seemingly carries a tireless bag of energy. Performing four songs – including the band’s original Painted Dreams and Walk the Moon’s Shut up and dance with me, Alobo was lively and irrepressible, running down the platform to the pews, all the while making the crowd sing along.   The cheery Virie and Zaza – two singing sensations who have taken the music scene in the state by storm – performed an unreleased original Light Up and a rendition of Coldplay’s The Scientist.   The Patkai Road Project was initiated jointly by the Alumni Association Patkai Christian College (AAPCC), Fingerprint (NGO), Students’ Union Patkai Christian College (SUPCC), and the Post Graduate Students’ Welfare Committee (PGSWC) in the month of July.   A premier institute in the State, Patkai Christian College has a chink in its armor - its roads. Over the years, the roads have deteriorated.   With no metalling work in recent years, the college has tried to repair its roads with stones and mud. However, this has only resulted in slushy roads during rains and dust when sunny.   This has become a struggle for the students and the college community in particular and the public in general.   Having felt the need for the college to have good road connectivity, Fingerprint, which is headed by Hongba Phom, a former President of the SUPCC, approached the College for this project.   Following a joint meeting with alumni executives and student body executives in the month of June, a Road Project Committee was formed to manage and oversee the Project. The Road Project committee consists of representatives from the alumni community, student body executives and College representatives.   The Committee plans to construct 1.4 km out of the total 7km stretch of campus road. The road construction will start from the college main gate till the new campus boys’ Hostel through the Auditorium (Bundrock Chapel Hall), Girls’ Hostel, Administrative Block and Library – a total stretch of 1.4 kms at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 Lakhs with help from the Alumni Community.
