Spear Corps commemorates Kargil War anniversary across NE

Kohima, July 26 (MExN): The Spear Corps of the Indian Army marked the 26th anniversary of the Kargil War with a series of commemorative events across the North Eastern states, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the war heroes.

The PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland, and Southern Arunachal Pradesh in  a press release stated that in Assam, a bike rally was flagged off from Kakopathar to Doomdooma Town, with over 150 locals participating as a symbolic salute to the bravehearts. Interactive sessions were held at Daisjan, Penri, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Lekhapani, where a special motivational film on Kargil Vijay Diwas was screened, inspiring pride among 17 teachers and 265 students. A flag salutation ceremony was held at Kendriya Vidyalaya Lekhapani. An Army team visited the home of Captain Jintu Gogoi, VrC, in Golaghat, interacting with his family and paying tributes.

In Nagaland, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the War Memorial in Rangapahar Military Station, attended by the GOC of Spear Corps and Ex-Servicemen. Assam Rifles organized celebrations in Kohima, Mon, Shamatore, Meluri, and Kiphire districts, with NCC cadets, students, and locals participating enthusiastically. 

A flag-hoisting ceremony at Zakhama Military Station was followed by a wreath-laying at the Orchid War Memorial. A motorcycle rally honoured Captain N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), culminating in a wreath-laying at his native village in Nerhema. Another ceremony at Medziphema included an educational tour for 30 students from the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University.

In Manipur, Assam Rifles hosted a Veterans Meet in Modi and Chandel districts, felicitating over 175 veterans, including those from the Naga Regiment who fought in Operation Vijay. The Indian Army held events at the Shantivan War Memorial, Leimakhong, honoring 18 ex-servicemen. In Senapati and Bishnupur districts, five Honorary Captains, two Honorary Lieutenants, Veer Naris, and Next of Kin of gallantry awardees were honoured. 

A wreath-laying ceremony at Ngarumphung Village paid tribute to Capt Keishing Clifford Nongrum, MVC (P), with 30 ex-servicemen and 120 schoolchildren in attendance. The event concluded with a performance by the Indian Army Pipe Band and felicitations.
