Spice growers trained on advance production technology, processing

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): A day long intensive training and  field inspection  was conducted by All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices, Nagaland Centre, Department of Horticulture, SAS:NU at Socunoma village and Bade village on September 21 and 22. 

Selected family members under TSP-Spice programme participated and equipped themselves about advance production technology of ginger and turmeric. Resource person, Dr Graceli I Yepthomi, Assistant Professor encouraged the farmers to integrate traditional and scientific approach to generate higher production and productivity. 

She also emphasized that the adoption of modern technologies increases productivity, prevents soil degradation, reduce wastes and promotes sustainability, a press release stated. 

During interactions, participants learnt different aspects of sustainable production and primary processing of turmeric and ginger. They were also taught on how to manage and reduce the pest and disease infestation.  

Project-in-charge, Prof. CS Maiti motivated the farmers to achieve higher production so as to be able to market the produce to different parts of the country and assured the farmers to extend technical help and assist them.  

An onsite visit and inspection was also done in various farmers’ field where the problems prevalent in their area were discussed.
