Kohima, March 26 (MExN): Nagaland government Principal Secretary for Information Technology, Power and Chief Minister’s Office, K D Vizo today graced the inaugural session of annual sports and games meet of St John Bosco School, Khonoma under Kohima district.

In his inaugural address, Nagas are athletically gifted and many show the potential to excel in sports, he said.

Nagas are second to none in terms of sports talent but unfortunately many promising young Naga athletes’ careers have ended due to excessive intake of alcohol and other substance abuse, Vizo lamented while advising them to stay away from bad habits.

The bureaucrat advised the young boys and girls to chase their goals in sports or any career for that matter would be to dare to dream big and be prepared to put in hard work to realise them.

Quoting the old saying “Rome was not built in a day,” Vizo asked the students and youngsters to focus on getting better every day in sports or in their career.

He also advised the parents, guardians and coaches to establish sports as an element of fun as it can go a long way in not only encouraging them but also allow them to discover their potential.

Saying that a fundamental part of success that is often ignored is ‘failure’, Vizo said everyone fails in life and it is crucial to develop a positive mindset towards failure.

He also emphasised on the importance of self confidence, perseverance, discipline and determination for a sportsperson.
Meanwhile, touching on the history of the school, Vizo said it was started in 1966 by Fr Felix SDB and Margaret Khare, his own sister served as the head teacher upto Class-II.

In the earlier days even students from Dimapur and Kohima town used to study in this School, he said.

It continued to have very good HSLC results and many Alumni are now holding responsible positions in the Government of Nagaland and elsewhere, he said.

In spite of being the first Catholic School in Nagaland and despite of the very generous villagers of Khonoma Village who provided sufficient land to encourage education, he regretted that the enrolment of students have never crossed 400 even after 56 years and called an appropriate to study the reason.
