St John School students attends ISRO Young Scientist Programme

Chümoukedima, June 5 (MExN): Ten students from Nagaland participated in the Young Scientist Programme or YUVIKA (Yuva Vigyani Karyakram) launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was a two-week residential training programme for school children held at NESAC Shillong from May 12-24. 

Out of the ten students, five were from St John School Diphupar ’B’, Chümoukedima, including Andrew Billung, Mercy Z Tungoe, Zuchubeni P Ngullie, Bhavana Pradhan, Ann Maria PS all from 9th standard. During the programme, Ann Maria PS of St John School bagged second position in project presentation from ISRO, the school stated in a press release. 

Nearly 2.85 lakh students registered and 350 students were selected from various states and Union Territories for the ISRO programme. 

The release mentioned that the Young Scientist Programme, also known as YUVIKA aims to ignite the passion for space science among the youth of India. This initiative by ISRO provides a platform for talented students to experience the exciting world of space research and development. The programme had lectures, hands on sessions, visits to facilities and other places of interest, project work, etc. Yoga sessions and indoor sports were also arranged for the students. 

The programme covered many interesting activities like Model Rocket making and launching, Telescope assembly, robotics and robot assembly, interactive games, etc. in addition to lectures on different interesting topics covering Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Gaganyaan, different Space Applications, etc. In addition, live demonstrations on sounding rocket launching, live session from Antarctica were arranged to make the programme a memorable one for the young scientists. 

The major attraction of the programme was an online interactive session with the selected Indian Astronauts. 

Meanwhile, St John School, Headmaster, Johny Abraham, has applauded the students for their achievements and also setting an example for their peers.
