Chümoukedima, November 24 (MExN): St Joseph Parish Women Society, Chümoukedima, Dimapur conducted training session on 'Dialogue' under the aegis of Peace Channel on November 21.
Vitono Haralu, Project Coordinator, Peace Channel was the resource person. In her message, Haralu said that dialogue is a tool to create a positive change in the given situation beginning from personal to collective spaces, an essential tool for breaking down barriers and connections across the divides in the society, a press release from Alan Paul stated.
The main objective of dialogue was to open an inclusive process where communication is based on mutual respect and acceptance, transforming and deepening understanding of others and ourselves through listening, sharing and questioning.
Haralu began the session by asking the participants to share their understanding by the term ‘Dialogue.’ Haralu said dialogue is a basic process for building common understanding by letting go of the differences and misunderstanding.
She said the intention of dialogue was not to advocate but to enquire, not to argue but to explore, not to convince but to discover. Based on that she conducted an activity where women participants were divided into groups, a conflicting situation put forward and solved with the intervention of a third party – a counselor whose duty is to be impartial and solve the issue of the conflicting individuals. She emphasized on the great need of women to get involved in the process of peace building processes and be part of the negotiating table in lobbying, facilitating and mediating for the larger interest of the women community that serves the common purpose of the society as a whole. Emilo Martha welcomed the gathering while Rose invocated the session. The programme ended with a closing prayer by Agnes.
