St Joseph University holds first Convocation Ceremony

Dimapur, March 28 (MExN): St Joseph University conducted its first Convocation Ceremony for the graduates of UG, PG, and M.Phil Degree on March 28 at the university campus. Altogether, 1016 students graduated from 19 disciplines and 37 graduates were awarded with Gold Medals while 36 with Silver Medals. 

The event started with an invocation by Rev Fr William, Superior General of MMI. Rev Sr Dr I Arockia Mary, Dean of Administration pronounced the welcome address which was then followed by the University report delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr D Gnanadurai. The event was presided by the Guest of Honour, His Excellency, Most Rev Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio, India and Nepal.  

The Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton in his convocational address reminded that education is a life-long process and urged the students to “acquire intellectual hunger.”

The event was felicitated by the Most Rev Dr Francis Kalist. He encouraged the graduates to be responsible citizens to transform the society. The keynote speaker, Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Pro-Chancellor of SJU addressed that such a Convocation ceremony mirrors the academic excellence of the University and he congratulated the University for adhering to the ethic of sound academia. The degrees were awarded to the graduates by Rev Fr Dr J E Arul Raj, Chancellor of the University.  

Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Kinitoli H Yeptho, Dean of Academics, followed by National Anthem.
