The Department of Social Work, MA RD Semester-IV, SJU, Chümoukedima undertook an exposure trip to Rural Resource and Training Centre, Umran, Meghalaya from February 15 to 17.

Chümoukedima, February 20 (MExN): The Department of Social Work, MA RD Semester-IV, St Joseph University, Chümoukedima undertook an exposure trip to the Rural Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Umran, Meghalaya from February 15 to 17.
Based on the theme ‘Exploring innovative solutions and rural technologies for sustainable rural development,’ the trip was held under the guidance of Yashienla and Kevitsalie Jerome, Assistant Professors, Department of Social Work, SJU.
A press release received here stated that RRTC has a rich experience in working with the rural poor, especially by providing skills and training in organic farming, livestock management, agriculture low-cost and appropriate technology, and entrepreneurship in the field of agriculture. The Centre imparts training and exposure to groups comprising of youth, women and men farmers, young entrepreneurs, schools and college students, and government officers from different States.
The main objective of the visit was to get exposure to an integrated rural development approach leading towards the uplifting and empowerment of agricultural communities sustainably. Rev Fr Kenny Pakma, Director of RRTC gave a brief introduction about the Institute.
The team of 47 students accompanied by two faculty members visited different sectors of agriculture, livestock farming, and food processing sector and gained a wide range of information and knowledge about homestead farming, herbal and flower gardens, pisciculture, mushroom cultivation, vermin culture, vermicomposting and food processing.
