
Jakhama, August 25 (MExN): The annual graduation day of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama was celebrated on August 24 at the college indoor stadium with His Grace Archbishop John Moolachira (of Guwahati) as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest stated that there would be no progress in any field if we stop learning and that it is of utmost importance to be a constant learner. He also said that there is no substitute for hard work but we should put our heart and soul in whatever we do. Importantly he pointed out that money, acquired whether legally or illegally, seems to be the mantra of our time but what we require today is integrity, compassion, work culture and generosity.
Addressing the gathering, Principal of the college, Fr. Dr. Sebastian Oussepparampil congratulated all the successful graduates for bringing mammoth laurel to the college and encouraged them to march forward, holding their heads high up and exhibit their capabilities to the world. Further, he mentioned that 2017 was a great year for SJC as there were 71 rank holders and also eight toppers in the NU Exams.
Zubemo Humtsoe, faculty member from dept. of management delivered the message on behalf of the teachers. He said that a successful person is one who is ready to work on his shortcomings and overcome the obstacles to carve a way to success. This was followed by conferring of the various awards with the chief guest doing the honour.
Teachers were also felicitated by him. The various Awards were: Governor’s Gold Medal: Wetso-u Kapfo Chikrophiiyo Memorial Award: Bichano Lotha; Avica Achumi Memorial Award: Lungkungam Leo Panmei; Alumni Association Award: Lironthung S Humtsoe; Youthnet Award: Keyolezo; Best Science Student Award: Visedelie; APJ Abdul Kalam Award: Khriele-u Zumvii; Dr. Talimeren Ao Award: Nuneno Niehu; and Mahatma Gandhi Award: Lito Zhimomi.
The best graduate of 2017, Wetso-u Kapfo also spoke during the programme. Earlier, the programme was hosted by Thoziisie Nyuwi and Kiringle Martha, invocation by Rev. Fr. VemedoKezo, welcome song by ‘Rhythm Shackles’, special beatbox entertainment by Jeffrey and Moatemsu, a cultural dance by Rengma cultural troupe, an orchestra, and the Josephites’ Vocal band with ‘Going Home to Heaven, Some Sweet Day’. The event concluded with the words of gratitude by the cultural secretary SJC, Students’ Council, Thejakhrienuo Tunyi and singing of the college anthem.
