St Xavier College Falcon Fest celebrates ‘Cultural Diversity’

Jalukie, November 29 (MExN): St Xavier College, Jalukie organized the first edition of Falcon Fest on November 27 at the College Auditorium with an aim to create awareness on the importance of preservation of Amur Falcon in the Falcon capital of Nagaland. 


The event was hosted by the Department of Sociology under the supervision and guidance of Rev Dr Francis Cheerangal, Principal of the College. 


The event emphasized on the necessity to educate and promote cultural behaviors to the younger generation who are the key holders of our cultural identity. It highlighted the rich culture and tradition of Northeast India under the theme ‘Cultural Diversity’. 


Keeping in mind the multi-dimensional nature of the event, various cultural activities and competition were held for students representing several institutions of Jalukie town with participants from Barail Valley Hr Sec School, Govt Hr Sec School, St Xavier Hr Sec School, and five Departments of St Xavier College. 


The activities included traditional Fire Making, Catapult Shooting, Traditional Attire Show, Cultural Dance and Music, and exhibition of indigenous Arts, Crafts and Food Stall. Madam W Narola Imchen (Head Mistress, GHSS) addressed the gathering as the special guest. She enlightened the audience on the importance of wildlife conservation and why and how culture as an identity must be preserved, promoted and transmitted to the younger generation.


Other guest who grace the event were Major Yashvir Singh Sheron (Commanding Officer, Ahthibung Unit, 36th Assam Rifles), Fr Charles (Director, DAN, Nagaland), Rev Fr George Antony (Principal, St Xavier Hr Sec School), Rev Father David Tithong (Dean of Studies, Jalukie Seminary), The event was concluded with appraisal and prize Distribution by Seiboy Khongsai (Asst Prof, Dept of Sociology) which was followed by celebration from the winners of the different competitive events.


The cultural dance competition which was the highlighting event of the day had the Department of History (St. Xavier College) and GHSS bagging the 1st and 2nd prize respectively. While the Dept. of English (St. Xavier College) and Barail Valley HSS shared the 3rd prize. 


Homang Yangba the Cultural Coordinator concluded with the event with vote of thanks.
