Major Pillai along with the students of St Xavier HSS during the culmination of the Annual Games & Sports 2026 meet in Shamator on April 25.
Shamator, April 26 (MExN): The concluding ceremony of the Annual Games and Sports 2026 of St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator, was held on April 25 at the school campus with enthusiasm and participation from students and staff.
Major Ajay Pillai, Officer Commanding of 32 Assam Rifles, Shamator, attended the event as the Guest of Honour. The programme commenced at 9 am and was compered by Zhelo Michael.
The ceremony began with a welcome song, followed by an invocation prayer led by the Vice Principal, Caroline Wanglar. The gathering also joined in singing the school anthem. Delivering the welcome address, Principal Fr Latsutho John Poji expressed gratitude to the Guest of Honour and acknowledged the efforts of all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the annual sports meet. A representative from the Sports Committee highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork and a healthy competitive spirit among students.
The prize distribution ceremony formed the highlight of the programme, with winners of various sporting events being honoured for their performances.
In his address, Major Pillai encouraged students to actively engage in sports and co-curricular activities, stating that these play a vital role in shaping character, leadership and physical fitness.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by School Captain Rekila, who expressed appreciation to the Guest of Honour, the school management, teachers, students and others involved in organising the event. The ceremony ended with the singing of the National Anthem followed by the lowering of the sports flag, marking the official close of the Annual Games and Sports 2026.
