DIMAPUR, MARCH 23 (MExN): Fresh after the firing incident at Thilixu village on March 18, the same village witnessed another tense situation on March 23. It happened during the relocation of the NSCN-K (Khango)’s Ceasefire Supervisory Board office from Thilixu Block-I to Thilixu Block-V. The relocation was affected after the villagers demanded moving of the CFSB to another location, citing safety concerns, in the aftermath of the March 23 firing at the CFSB office.
As per reports, the Assam Rifles tried to apprehend one cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango), who was moving from the old CFSB office to the new location, resulting in a commotion with villagers, who maintained that the AR action was inappropriate and uncalled for.
There was no statement from the NSCN-K (Khango), while the Defence PRO released a statement outlining the Assam Rifles’ version of the incident. According to the statement, the AR set up check points, alongwith the local police, near the CFSB office as a preemptive measure to avoid another clash between the two feuding NSCN –K (Khango) groups.
It claimed that it was at around 12:30 pm, when one vehicle, which came out of the CFSB office, tried to escape. But it could not after sighting another check point ahead and entered a church compound nearby. In the car was found one Brig Phuyeka, alongwith two other cadres, who the statement claimed was wanted in connection with an FIR registered at the Diphupar Police Station. He was released “as the situation was getting tense and to avoid any untoward incident,” it said. The said Brig Phuyeka was reportedly found travelling with two AK 47s at a security checkpost on March 4 but escaped.
