Dimapur, Nov 12 (MExN): The State Cabinet will discuss in its next meeting the issue of inviting the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) for delving into the contentious Nagaland Public Services Commission (NPSC) corruption case.
In response to the Naga Students Federation’s (NSF) ultimatum served to the state government for removal of NPSC Chairman and instating of a CBI enquiry into the bribery scandal, the government today issued a statement in regards to the demands made.
A letter from ACS Lalthara addressed to NSF President stated that in regard to the demand for removal of NPSC Chairman KM Chadha, it was apprised that the Chairman for personal reasons, had asked the state government to relieve him of duties as chief of the commission with effect from the afternoon of November 10. Accordingly he was relieved of his duties as Chairman of the NPSC from the said date.
In regard to the demand for entrusting the CBI for investigations, into the alleged irregularities in the conduct and functioning of the NPSC since the last 20 years, the matter would be put up to the state cabinet in the next sitting for their consideration.
In view of these, the government requested the Federation to desist from launching any agitation on the issue which, the letter stated, may cause inconvenience to the public and candidates or that may hinder the NPSC from discharging its constitutional duties in public interest.
