State capital gets Jogger’s Park

Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker Sharingain Longkumer inaugurated Jogger’s Park here in the premises of NLA Secretariat on April 29.

The project for construction of Jogger’s Park was sanctioned under State plan during 2019-20 at the total cost of Rs 70 lakh and is implemented by PWD (Housing), Nagaland.

The construction work was awarded to M/S Orion Enterprises Class-1 Contractor Kohima under C/o Architect Richard Belho on March 19, 2020 and the project was completed on October 18, 2020.

The Jogger’s Park was handed over to the NLA Secretariat on March 31, 2021. 

The total length of jogging track is 1018 metres. There are 13 rain water harvesting ponds and total length of footsteps (renovated) is 170 meters, informed Er S Lanu Jamir, EE PWD (Housing) Central Division, Nagaland.

Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer said that at the crucial time of COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of health and the need to focus on one’s health has become paramount.

He maintained that staying fit and having a healthy body is requisite to having good immune system and that it is one of the best ways to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

He hoped that the Jogger’s Park would benefit all those who are health conscious and also encourage others to be health conscious.
  
Every district will have parks: Kronu
Also speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu said that every district will have parks. He said that the State government has already given instruction to the Deputy Commissioners to identify the locations where parks can be constructed.

Kronu also informed that all the DCs have been instructed to identify and protect government properties and send the report to planning department within a month’s time. “It is a time for us to protect all the government properties,” Kronu said. He also challenged the gathering to reason together and make Nagaland a better place to live in.

The Minister informed that the government will try to see that the NLA Speaker quarter project is taken up by next year. Further, Kronu informed that he will discuss with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for upgradation of MLA Hostels as well.

Tongpang Okuzum, Minister PWD (Housing & Mechanical), said that the inauguration of Jogger’s Park is the first of its kind in Kohima and stressed the need have many more such parks and recreational infrastructure in Kohima town.
