State core committee constituted to assist Election Department

Kohima, June 3 (DIPR): The Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiated in 2010 has evolved into the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India with targets of (a) Increasing electoral participation through voter registration and turnout, (b) Increasing qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting and (c) Providing continuous electoral and democracy education to the people.  

Accordingly, the SVEEP - III Project Document 2016-2020 puts forward a goal to create a sustainable mechanism which carries out the work of voter education all over India covering all polling stations voter by voter over the next two decades, resulting in a population that is well informed on all aspects of electoral participation and motivated to participate in the process of elections and democratic governance.  

Conduct of the general election to constitute the 13th Legislative Assembly of Nagaland is due in early part of 2018. Pursuant to above directives it becomes necessary for all concern to step forward and give their full output to the Election Commission to secure peoples' enhanced electoral participation in the run up to conduct of next assembly election 2018 and beyond in respect of following programmes, namely:  

1.    Special Drive to register names in electoral roll of all left out voters with special emphasis on eligible citizens of 18-21 years age group,

2.    Conduct of Special Summary revision of electoral roll tentatively from 1st October this year,

3.    Celebration of 8th National Voters' Day on 25lh January 2018 and 4.    

Launching of campaigns for ethical, informed and inducement-free voting down to the grassroots level. Therefore, the State Core Committee, comprising of the following government Departments has been constituted to assist the Election Department in the aforesaid task, namely: State core committee constituted The first meeting with the above members shall be held on June 14 (Tuesday) at 11:00 AM in the Conference Hall, Hotel Japfu Kohima.  

Therefore, all above members have been asked to come prepared with their action plan to develop and promote the fidelity of electoral roll, campaign for voters' awareness and education for conduct of free and fair election so as to make it truly reflective of people's choice to govern the people. Those departments who have undertaken action in this regard may present action taken reports as well.
