State Government to hold seminar to help public identify agencies responsible for different roads

Kohima, August 24 (MExN): With the roads in the state in decrepit condition, the State Government has decided to hold a seminar to help the general public identify the department and agencies responsible for upkeep of roads. The government also seeks to help the public identify the number of roads under the respective agencies and departments.

This decision was the outcome of an ‘Emergency Meeting’ convened by Chief Minister TR Zeliang to oversee status of road maintenance and renovation in the State, a press release from the CMO’s Media Cell informed.

The emergency meeting was apparently conceived as a follow-up to the numerous suggestions and feedback received online from bloggers on the deteriorating road conditions in the State.

“In just a few days, the CM’s online account has garnered 6714 followers on Facebook, 215 on Twitter and 373 on Instagram,” the CMO beamed with pride while terming the entry of CM Zeliang into the digital realm as a "paradigm shift” in the public’s perception of the head of the state government.

The seminar, the CMO informed, without giving dates, would feature Government Departments like PWD (Road & Bridges), National Highways, Nagaland State Disaster Management Agency, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, Border Roads Organisation etc. wherein the respective departments will highlight the details of their work. The civil Society, including tribal hohos and other NGOs will be invited for the seminar, the Chief Minister was quoted as saying.

"Problem with road connectivity is the one issue mostly raised by the public on Social Media and all Government Departments concerned with roadways are bound to make their activities public to maintain transparency,” the CM added.

While making a public appeal to the citizen of the State to be “more positive in their approach while questioning the Government”, the Chief Minister stated that “since roadways are the only means of transport in the State the genuine problem faced by the Public will be addressed on priority basis."

The Chief Minister further directed all the nodal Departments particularly related to road connectivity to fully utilize the available machinery and manpower under their respective Department.
