State Govt to hold officers liable for loss of vehicles

Dimapur, September 29 (MExN): The Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Lalthara, IAS has issued a directive that in case of loss of Government vehicles, the officers to whom the vehicle was attached at the time of loss will be held responsible, and he would be required to deposit the depreciated value of the vehicle stolen, to the Government revenue. Only after this, the question of replacement of vehicle will be considered. This was decided at a Cabinet meeting held on September 7, 2011.
An office memorandum appended by the Chief Secretary stated that there have been frequent losses of Government vehicles attached to the Officers. The memo further stated that the miscreants take advantage of lack of garage and safe parking area of the vehicles, but in some cases casual attitude on the part of the officers to unauthorized persons, for non-official persons, as well as parking of the vehicle in the open without any safety/vigilant measures lead to loss of the vehicles. It is the responsibility of the concerned officers to see that Government vehicles attached to them are secured from theft or any other unauthorized use.
The memorandum stated that the formula for calculating the depreciated value of Government vehicles are: vehicles lost during the 1st year- 90% of the book value, vehicles lost during the 2nd year-75% of the book value, vehicles lost during the 3rd year-60% of the book value, vehicles lost during the 4th year- 45% of the book value, vehicles lost during 5th year-35% of the book value, vehicles lost during  the 6th year- 29% of the book value, vehicles lost during  the 7th year- 23% of the book value, vehicles lost during the 8th year- 18%  of the book value, vehicles lost during the 9th year-0 14 %  of the book value, vehicles lost during the 10th year- 10%  of the book value.
