Kohima, September 26 (MExN): With the aim to provide basic psychiatric services to the people in all District Hospitals, and selected CHCs and PHCs, a two day modular training of Medical Officers (MOs) from District Hospital, Community Health Centre and Primary Health Centre kick started on September 26.
Addressing the MOs, Dr. N Bendangyanger Jamir, Principal Director, DoH&FW said that this training will update their knowledge and equip them with the basic information on how to identify the mental problem of a patient in their OPD. He also called upon them to take this opportunity to clear all doubts. Dr. Bendang added that this training will be beneficial and that they will be geared up with the basic skills of detecting cases of psychiatric element and provides treatment.
Dr. Khriezotuo, State Program Officer, Mental Health Program, H&FW also said that the programme is at its nascent stage and expressed hope that, after this training the programme will roll out actively in the State.
The trainers include Dr. T Wabang, MS, State Mental Health Institute Kohima (SMHIK), Dr. Temsulong, MO, SMHIK and Dr. Chikrozo Kezo, Nodal Officer, Mental Health, Dimapur will cover topics encompassing different mental issues like assessment and management of mental health in general practice, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, alcohol use and drug use disorder, samatoform disorders, psychiatric problems in elderly, epilepsy and psychiatric emergency.
