The valedictory function of the two-day state level thematic training programme on ‘organic/natural farming’ concluded today at SIRD Auditorium, Kohima.
Organized by the Earth Friendly Generation (EFG) in collaboration with Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi the training targeted NGOs, VOs, CBOs, government department etc.
At the concluding event, Medoneisa Chadi, Chairman Earth Friendly Generation focused on the need for Nagaland, being a consumer state, to promote organic farming practices that are sustainable and beneficial to the people.
He regretted that with the changing of time, most of the products available in the market are mixed with different types of chemicals substances which is injurious to human health.
"With this, the need of the hour is to impart training on various techniques and practices to organic limiting is the essential prerequisite. The goal of organic agriculture training is to contribute to the enhancement of sustainability in the context of agriculture," stated Chadi.
He further opined that the core objective should be emphasized on the sustenance of agriculture, restore ecological balance, improving soil quality, health, promotion of indigenous crops and putting an end to chemical farming.
Chadi also remarked that the objective of the training program was to make people aware and develop alternative strategy over chemical farming; develop self sufficient agricultural system among Nagas where they can rely on their own resources; and to promote adequate production of food through organic farming in the foreseeable future.
The valedictory function was graced by Veluo Shijo, Additional Director, SIRD as a guest of honour.
