
KOHIMA, APRIL 21 (DIPR): A State Level Workshop and Consultation on Human Trafficking with special emphasis on commercial sexual exploitation and child labour was held at Police Headquarter Kohima on April 21 organized by Anyay Rahit Zindagi and State Resource Centre for Women in collaboration with Nagaland Police supported by the Terres Des Homes, Netherlands.
The chief patron and DGP Nagaland, LL Doungel IPS in his addressed said that in this world there is no place without problem, everybody has a problem and all of us have a responsible for it. Doungel said that with the cooperation of public and the police personnel the cases of human trafficking have been reduced comparing to the previous years. He also stated that police personnel are also a part of society, so he encouraged the gathering to extend their support in order to tackle human trafficking.
DIGP (HR&SJ) W. Krome IPS who also spoke in the workshop said that human trafficking can happen anywhere; therefore the department has set up human trafficking protection centre in all the district of Nagaland. He encouraged the general public to come and report as and when the problem arises.
Mission Director, State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW), Daisy Mezhür in her key note address, said that Nagaland is the first state to launched ambassador for girl child –Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Daisy said that North Eastern region has become hotspot of human trafficking activities where even in Nagaland human trafficking cases is reported. Mezhur stated that “9000 children from eastern Nagaland had been exploited in the form of earning.” She appraised the gathering to come together and work collectively to reduce this problem.
The resource persons spoke on the following topics - ‘action taken and challenges faced in combating human trafficking’, ‘Concept clarity about human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation situation of child labour in the state and the mechanism to curb it’, ‘child labour, laws and impact on children’, ‘legal mechanism in the state to curb human trafficking’, ‘laws relating to human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation situation of human trafficking and the challenges faced in rehabilitation process in Nagaland’ and ‘experience of working with commercial sex workers from health perspective’.
