Under the theme ‘Blood connects us all, Share Life, Give Blood’, the State Level World Blood Donor Day was commemorated at the Health and Family Welfare, Directorate Conference Hall with M. Patton, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, H & FW and Chairman NSBTC as the chief guest.
According to a DIPR report, there are 8 status of blood banks in the district of Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mon and Phek. Out of which Dimapur is the only model blood bank. Blood collection for 2015-16 as of 8 districts Dimapur holds 112.23%, Kohima 81.05%, Mokokchung 111.2%, Tuensang 61.25%, Wokha 123.5%, Zunheboto 88%, Mon 93%, Phek 23%. Target for blood collection 2014-15 was 11000 and 2015-16 is 10000 and number of camps for 2014-15 target was 57 and 2015-16 is 71.
During the programme, a discussion on presentation was highlighted by Dr. P. Tia Jamir, Director NSBTC and Joint Director (BTs) NSACS where the gaps and challenges were pointed out such as insufficient fund allocation, shortage of manpower, infrastructure, BT Van, and training, inability to assess total state blood requirement, and support to Voluntary Blood Donors Association. Vote of thanks was given by Dy Drugs Controller & Governing body member NSBTC, WH Patton. Acknowledgement of voluntary blood donors was honoured by the chief guest, M. Patton IAS where 17 of them were acknowledged.
The chairperson for the programme was Joint Director, IEC, NSACS, Metevinuo Sakhrie, while welcome speech was delivered by MO I/C blood bank NHAK Dr. V. Khamo. The significance of the day was shared by Project Director NSACS, Dr. Meguosielie Kire, short presentation by Assistant Director VBD Alipoker, and brief sharing was also given by blood recipient Lemla. Certificates were also awarded to 17 blood donors who have donated blood more than five times.
