New Delhi, August 25 (MExN): The State Sports Academy Nagaland entered the quarterfinals in the Sub-Junior (Under-14) Boys section of the 58th Subroto Cup Football Tournament here today. The boys from Nagaland eased pass Kerala with a comfortable 4-0 win. Lengoulen Changsan opened the scoring in the 25 minute of the first half before teammates Eshong Konyak, Mughahuto Chishi, and Bapen Yimjong scored a goal apiece in the second half. Earlier, Government Model High School from Chandigarh and NCC from Imphal became the first teams to qualify for the knockout stages. In a Pool C match at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Government Model School steamrolled Shri Guru Ram Rai Inter-College from Uttarakhand 16-0 to take the top perch in their pool. Likewise, the NCC boys from Manipur, who kept an all-win record, led pool B when they defeated Maharashtra 3-1 at the NWC ground. These two morning matches also sealed the fate of other teams in their respective pool. However a 2-1 win for Sibsing Memorial Government School from Meghalaya against St Xavier Higher Secondary School from Chhattisgarh was not good enough to carry them forward in pool C. So was the case with Delhi’s Army Public School who downed Gujarat’s JB International School 4-2 for their second triumph in pool B, with the top slot already having gone the NCC boys way. For the Meghalaya outfit, K. Shangrit and Cruz scored while for the Shantanu, Kartik and Rahul scored the winners in the Delhi-Gujarat schools matches. Both came in a losing cause even as the Ahmedabad boys reduced the margin against APS (Delhi) through Arya Patel’s brace. Air Force School Subroto Park scored 2 goals to defeat CBSE Kasiga School, Dehradun without making any difference to the quarter final qualifiers. The only goal from jersey no. 10 Promick Bose West Bengal against IPSC Assam was not enough to give them a chance in the quarter finals.
