Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): Advisor to the Department of New & Renewable Energy, Khriehu Lieziestu inaugurated the 10kw wind-solar Hybrid at Government College, Zunheboto on April 9.
During the inauguration, Lieziestu said that as the fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum oils which are the basic raw material for generating grid electricity are running our and therefore, the only alternative source of energy is the new and renewable energy. “Renewable energy is not only freely available in nature but is also clean energy resulting in mitigating global warming and climate change. It is therefore, necessary to change our approach towards a new kind of energy which is sustainable and locally available,” said Lieziestu.
In this regard, the Department of New & Renewable Energy is stepping into harnessing renewable energy such as solar energy, hydro-electric energy, biomass gasifier, biogas and wind energy and so far the efforts made by the department have been very successful.
Director of New & Renewable Energy, Er TS Angami stated in a press release that the Advisor earlier, during his visit to the ongoing 1 MW Hydro Electric project which is being constructed at Tsutsung River, Longsa village in Mokokchung district expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work. The site engineers of the project also informed him that the construction party is trying its best to complete the work before schedule time i.e. March 2014.
The director of New & Renewable Energy, Er TS Angami, Er Kavito Chishi, joint director, Er Renilo Nuh, assistant director and other technical officials of the department, accompanied the Advisor. The team ended the touring programme by visiting Kucho River in Chishilimi Village where they interacted with the village functionaries for construction of a feasible hydro project at Kucho River.
