Stolen vehicle lands up at PS before owner could lodge FIR

Kohima, September 23 (MExN): A stolen vehicle landed up at a police station in Kohima even before the owner could file an official complaint. According to the Kohima police, the vehicle was handed back to the rightful owner while two persons were arrested. The recovery of the vehicle and the arrests were the result of a routine check of vehicles at the Phesama police check-post on the night of September 22. The stolen vehicle – a Mahindra Bolero with two occupants—was reportedly heading towards Senapati district, Manipur. “While the police were questioning the driver, the occupant of the vehicle fled from the scene, but was later caught after hot pursuit,” stated the PRO of the Kohima police. Both occupants were arrested with the driver claiming that he was asked by one person to drive it to Mao in return for a payment of Rs. 5000. The PRO said that the driver further claimed that he was handed over the vehicle at the TCP Gate, Kohima. On September 23, the PRO said, the owner of the vehicle was surprised to find his vehicle at the South Police Station. As it turned out, he had come to the police station to file FIR about his stolen Mahindra Bolero. The owner, one T. Khalo of AG colony, told the police that he had parked his vehicle the day before by the roadside as usual after returning home from office only to find it missing the next morning.
