Storm damages over 100 houses in Mizoram

Newmai News Network Aizawl | April 4   At least 100 houses were damaged by hailstorm in Chiahpui village under Ngopa RD block in Champhai district of Mizoram on Sunday evening, a delayed report said.   Sources said that among the 100 houses 40 of them were completely destroyed, while others were partially damaged by the hailstorm. The roof of Field Pavilion and three other houses were blown off by a violent wind, the sources said. However, there was no report of any human casualty.   A meeting of the Village Council chaired by the Village Council President Lalrinchhana was held immediately to assess the situation. The district administration under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner also swung into action to take stock of the situation.   It may be mentioned here that, at least 70 houses were damaged at Vairengte village and neighbouring Saiphai village in the Mizoram-Assam border area when a squall accompanied by hailstorm lashed the northern part of the state on Saturday morning. 20 houses at IOC locality in Vairengte were badly damaged by the storm. A social work was called on Monday to repair the damaged houses.   In another cyclonic incident, 10 houses in Mizoram-Assam border Kolasib town were destroyed by hailstorm, while two houses have been completely damaged.   Incessant rains accompanied by squalls also hit the state capital Aizawl during the same period.
