Street vendors sensitized on Nagaland Street Vendors Rules

Kohima, November 14 (MExN): On the occasion of International Street Vendors Day, November 14, a street awareness campaign was carried out by North East Network (NEN), Nagaland in collaboration with Self Employed Women Association (SEWA), Nagaland. 

A press release issued by Keviselhou Mepfhuo, Programme Associate, NEN Resource Centre, Chizami Village stated that the campaign focussed on sensitizing the street vendors on Nagaland Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules 2019, their rights and obligations, and highlighted on the significant contribution of women street vendors to their families and society at large.

At Kohima, NEN Nagaland team reached out to street vendors at High School Colony, Razhu Point and BOC area. At Dimapur, the District Executive Committee of Dimapur SEWA reached out to street vendors in New Market, Purana Bazaar, Super Market and Rangapahar. An information booth was set up at Dimapur, to provide relevant information on SEWA, its work with street vendors, and Nagaland Street Vendors Rules 2019 to SEWA members and the public.

The International Street Vendors Day is annually celebrated on November 14. The day is celebrated across the world to raise awareness on the significant challenges that street vendors faced, and call for recognition of the contribution made by street vendors to local and national development.
