Imphal | August 4

The Founder cum Principal and the coordinator of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School were arrested by the police on August 4, barely three days after their pre-arrest bail prayers were rejected by a local court here.

A police source said that they were arrested in connection with the death of the 12-year-old girl student, N Babysana, in her hostel room in a suspicious manner on July 18 last.

Founder cum Principal, Pheiroijam Landhoni (62) and Coordinator of the school, Pheiroijam Romita Devi were on interim bail till since July 20.

Police prayed the court of Imphal West district session judge for rejecting the pre-arrest bails granted to the Principal and the Coordinator which the hearing was held last Saturday.

Police, in their prayers seeking bail rejection alleged that after the death of the minor became a media sensation, the investigation has undergone a drastic change from its normal course and under the influence of many factors.

The investigation was not properly directed.

After going through the case diary, the court ruled that the circumstances leading to the death of the minor need proper investigation while observing that the residential school does not cater to the guidelines of the Supreme Court as submitted by the APP.

The Court further opined that the case diary also shows that the investigation is going on in full swing and custodial interrogation of the petitioners (the Principal and the Coordinator) is required for proper investigation and collection of evidence.

As such, the Court rejected the pre-arrest bail petitions filed by the two individuals and also cancelled their interim bails.
