Students from different schools participate in the rally organised to mark ‘World No Tobacco Day’ at Dimapur on May 31.
Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): To mark ‘World No Tobacco day’ on May 31, the Voice of Victims in collaboration with Dimapur district Anti-Tobacco cell organized a rally and function.
According to a press note received here around 500 students from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Holy Cross School, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School and Pranabanada Vidyapith, doctors and senior citizens have taken part in the rally which started from City Tower to Holy Cross police point. A function was followed by the rally in Holy Cross School auditorium, which was attended by around 600 people. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur as a chief guest told the student not only to say ‘no to tobacco’ themselves but also encouraged parents and people not to take tobacco.
Dr Sankar Deb Roy, Oncologist, Senior Medical officer Nagaland University in his key note address elaborated about various effects of tobacco, especially in north states where smokeless tobacco consumption is highest and because of which there is alarmingly high numbers of oral and nasopharyngeal cancers are being reported. Ren Merry shared his experiences as voice of victims. The function was presided over by Deputy CMO Dimapur Dr Ritu Thurre.
