“Understand and examine yourself in what you are good and bad at, your strengths and weaknesses then only you will know who you are,” Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, IPS told a section of students on Saturday.
The IPS officer who was a Special Guest during the Fresher’s Day programme at Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Dimapur on Saturday encouraged the students to develop their minds, be comfortable with themselves and to be confident. He also emphasized on the importance of inculcating good book reading habits to gain more knowledge and insights into life.
Noting that many students have the habit of setting expectations unrelated to their field of studies, Limasunep told the students to set goals on the basis of what subject they were studying and have reasonable expectations.
Limasunep, who became an IPS officer at the age of 26 underscored the need to have feedbacks from people as they journey towards achieving their goals. He said success in life should not be measured by the amount of money being earned but to be satisfied and happy with the kind of success derived through dignity of labour and honour.
“As students, your responsibility is to study hard since there is no substitute to hardwork and no real success is achieved without burning the midnight oil,” he added.
Limasunep urged the students to find a meaning in their lives in a globalized world where things were changing rapidly and people getting more fixated with social media.
He advised the students to refrain from indulging in alcoholism, drugs abuse and other addictions as such activity will lead to loss of self-respect.
Principal, Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Dr. Sentisangla Imsong delivered the welcome address while the students both freshers and seniors delivered speeches and special numbers.
During the function, Lemang and Wapangsenla Walling were selected Mr. and Ms. freshers respectively.
